It encourages laziness in voting. I takes a bit of time and effort to vote on a node, and knowing that your votes will carry over, is one more impetus to be lazy, and vote tommorrow. Which of course, gets delayed again tommorrow.

Indeed! But some days you just don't manage to do it. That's why I proposed this suggestion as a tiny workaround for such unfortunate inconveniences. As for the other problem, it has already been told you that I would limit the carryover to one day, that is, to the double of the available votes for one's level. Of course you may want two, instead, or three, but a limit should be imposed anyway, and as far as I'm concerned one day is by far more than enough.
