You could always try to telnet to the mail server on port 25. But as said before, contact your IT team. You run the risk of breaking policy.

    TCP port 25 is more and more reserved for server-to-server communication, clients should use TCP port 587 on "their own" mail server instead. Policies on both ports and often also firewalls are used to enforce this at several providers.
