[The following comment is not directed at the post(er). Just a thought that occurred to me when reading it.]

I've seen people say they rarely, if ever, downvote. With no way to prove that, i wonder if there could be an optional field on a monk's home node for upvote and downvote totals, perhaps similar to ebay's user history, e.g. last month, last year, and ever. Even a rolling average of the past 30 days would be nice to see.

As I've said before, I downvote all thought-police posts and suggestions. I downvote often when these sort of discussions come up. :|

Who said anything about thought-police? This could be a way to optionally provide backup for one's own claim. That is, a monk who already stated he does not downvote, can even back up that claim, optionally, and temporarily.

If it's optional to display, that is certainly better. I tend to downvote monks who persistently ask for new features without ever volunteering to write the code too. Heck, I guess I just like downvoting. :P

This implies, and even encourages the view, that downvotes are bad, and therefore people who use them are bad.

That's not a view that should be encouraged.

This implies, and even encourages the view, that downvotes are bad, and therefore people who use them are bad.

What are you talking about? It does exactly the opposite. It gives users the ability to backup a claim that they don't downvote. Ostensibly, because they think it's bad.

It gives users the ability to backup a claim that they don't downvote.

But what purpose would that proof serve? None!

Down voting is an inherent and legitimate part of this site.

Claiming (or proving) that "I never downvote"; is nothing but a strawman designed to legitimize complaints against others who do make use of this site facility, and to justify calls for its removal.

The provision of a facility to bolster that strawman argument, do not serve the needs of the 99% of monks that use this place in accordance with its stated rules.

I just think that could be fun info to know for voters -- like XP Nodelet tell you about how many votes you have left, it could tell you how you've spent your votes today, this month, to date

On your home node, the "Your votes" links shows your votes.

        :) Something new since 2006(?) that I didn't know about :)
