Is there a way the rand function on the new Perl versions (5.20 and later) can replicate the same result as older Perl versions.
using the script below, older versions of Perl output a number of 56 (52) and the new versions output 466
I want the new versions to match the same result obtained using the older versions. I simply need to have access to some old data generated using the old versions.
Thank you.
srand(555);
my $range = 1000;
my $number = int(rand($range));
print $number,"\n";

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
