Hi! You can use the DBD::Excel module, which allows you to access to an Excel file via DBI. This will allow you to perform searches with no problems. The module is still in alpha, so I'm unsure how well it works. As an alternative there are several modules on CPAN which can be used to read an Excel file and/or convert into into another format.
