The other benefit is the "cool-down" period. This is a -very- important benefit in (near-)realtime chats. Unfortunately, this cool-down period is not exercised nearly enough, and lots of very ugly things have happened. Ever see an IRCop lose his/her temper, for instance? Ever see it in the form of a netsplit because they yanked their hub's ether out of the wall? Bad stuff. --
