in thread I can afford to spend so much time at the Monastery because:

Ben Franklin was not a Quaker. http://www.adherents.com/people/pf/Benjamin_Franklin.html may not be authoritative, but being a well-read Friend, I am sure Franklin was not one. He is not claimed as one and Friends had the habit of meticulous record keeping.

There are few Quakers who are household names in American history. The foremost would be William Penn, Rufus Jones, Herbert Hoover, and Richard Nixon.

It is not Friends' practice to devil worship, but mistakes happen. I'll appreciate it, if you won't incite the persecutions to begin again. :-)

Be well,
rir

Are you allowed to use a computer then? Cool! Quakers rule!

I recently read that the guy (I can't remember his name) who designed the American heavy frigates that did so well in the war of 1812 was a Quaker too. I think he was expelled though, for making war ships. Anyway, he was a hell of a ship builder.
