If he/she thinks your setup is antiquated, you can show off with a sample application using Catalyst + Template Toolkit and some ORM magic with Rose::DB & friends. Then instead of using that state of the art sucky template language, you can still use Perl. If he/she wants a new application you can point to a new direction :)
