bladx has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hie everyone! Does anyone know where I can access/get an account at a free un*x/linux server(s) where I can test out various CGI scripts I have been working on lately? My old server kind of quit on me... :( so any help would be appreciated!! -Andy

If it is just for testing I'd recommend installing Perl and Apache web server (both free) on your own computer, i.e. what you would be using to access the free server you are asking about.

This won't solve all possible problems but you will get more out of reduced latency.

Hmm.. search would be a good start. But, since you decided not to do that.. I'll give you a hint. Check out jcwren's homenode - I believe he may be able to help you. Granted, it's up to him.

You might want to try prohosting.com. They allowed (the last time I used them, anyway) CGI scripting in Perl. In order to be safe, they lock down pretty tight, basically chroot()'ing you to your homedir and restricting what modules can be used, although you can install modules that don't need compiling ( i.e., all Perl, no XS) in your home directory.
