Totally the Wizard of Oz -- who else is the embodiment of Laziness, Impatience, and Hubris?
- Laziness: sends others to do his dirty work. E.g. sends Dorothy and the gang on his mission.
- Impatience: didn't have time to build a real emerald city, so he just makes everyone wear green-tint goggles. Sweet shortcut.
- Hubris: the guy arrives in Oz and tells everyone he's a Wizard.

Mr. Spock, definitely. The Wizard of Oz is an old DOS batch programmer, you can tell just by lookin' at him. Randall Flagg, he's a Python programmer. Gargamel I suspect is C#, but I'm just guessing there. And Merlin? He's old school C, all the way. I also have it on good authority that Count Chocula does all of his programming on an Apple ][e in ugly old BASIC. From what I understand, Professor X is a Prolog programmer.

I could see Corwin learning a batch-processing language really well and perhaps awk, but Merlin is the one who knew just about every programming language worth knowing. He built his own theoretical computer, found a shadow where it would work, and wrote its expert system, remember?

I suppose I'm suffering from a lack of imagination but I voted for Merlin because I've read so many of his articles over on Stonehenge.
Speaking of a lack of imagination, I can't believe Spock would like Perl with all the fuzz of TIMTOWTDI and dynamic typing and such. In my mind, Spock programs directly in binary to avoid the imprecision of all those "overly human" languages.

Exactly. Spock wouldn't touch perl with a ten foot pole. He would find "Do what I mean" illogical because he would always exactly specify what he wants.
I would have said Prolog, as '(il)logical' is in every second sentence of his, but your reason for binary would appeal to him too, I'm sure.

- my firsth thought was indeed binary/assembly for good old Spocky as well .. but then the other words of Mr. Spock came to my mind .. because next to "its illogical!" he even often mention "interesting!" .. and the later would be the reason why he would use Perl for private studys .. maybe vulcans use Prolog/Lisp at work ..
- Wizard of Oz would indeed just use CSS to cover HTML being a language.
- Gargamel would try C but always fail with Runtime Exceptions
- Merlin I would assume to use Smalltalk
- Raistlin Majere would indeed use Occam :)

I would have to say that it would be most like Mr. Spock. Why? Well for one he's Vulcan, a race of beings who live their lives based purely on logic, and what does programming revolve around? Yes, that's right, logic. And what is Perl? That's right, a programming language.
When you wish to argue my point, just remember what Mr. Spock always says to Captain Kirk "Captain, that is illogical."
Now that my rant is over, it is time for me to take my leave, live long and prosper. :-)

Harry Dresden doesn't program computers; he and electronics don't get along.
Doctor Fate and Doctor Strange use arcane runes when they case spells, so they probably use APL.

I'm surprised to see Spock topping the list. I would think that Perl wouldn't be rigidly structured enough for Spock. Rather than subscribing to the TMTOWTDI philosophy, I see Spock as more of a "there's only one right way to do it" sort of person. :) | [reply] |

Wizard of Oz, for sure. What other programming language can make an average man seem like a wizard in the eyes of his peers?
I'm disappointed in the list, though, because the author seems to have a very loose definition of "wizardly beings"... Count Chocula? Spock? Even Professor X is stretching it a bit, but he is indeed wizardly compared to those two.
